
Development starts with the family – Minister Manickchand

- Berbice family receives new home

A member of the New Jersey Arya Samaj Humanitarian Mission hands over the keys of the house to Mrs. Latchman.
THE role of the family is vital to improving the life of an individual and a nation, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Ms. Priya Manickchand told a gathering in Berbice during the handing over of a house last Sunday to a family whose home was destroyed by high winds.
Under the Humanitarian Mission of the New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir, Inc. and the Guyana Central Arya Samaj, the Latchman family was provided with a new home which was rebuilt after their home fell as a result of high winds.

Ms. Manickchand said Guyana is in need of social improvement and if this is to be done then families must play a part. She commended the work of the Humanitarian Mission in assisting the Latchman family.
The Humanitarian Mission also received six sewing machines from the Director of Food for the Poor Guyana, Leon Davis for single parents.
It was noted that the Humanitarian Mission plans to set up a skills training centre at Canje to provide an opportunity for persons who do not have regular jobs to develop a skill and become empowered to earn a living through that skill.
Meanwhile, Minister Manickchand was presented with a citation and certificate from the Office of the Hudson County Executive, New Jersey in recognition of her outstanding personal efforts and civic achievements for contributing to improving the quality of life of others. Leon Davis also received a certificate from the Humanitarian Mission for his support of their work. The New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir humanitarian Mission was set up four years ago.
