Arya Samaj continues to lend support

PORT MOURANT, CORENTYNE – The Arya Samaj continues to lend a helping hand. Last week, members of the New Jersey Arya Samaj Mandir Inc., in collaboration with the Guyana Central Arya Samaj, handed over to Sydney Kennard, representative of the Canaan Children's Home at Port Mourant, a quantity of mosquito nets.

This is a continuation of the Humanitarian Mission work that started last month.

The President of the Guyana Chapter, Dr. Ramesh Sugrim, of Williamsburg , Corentyne, said that his team would continue to work along with groups here in Guyana .

The organisation, due to the success of the project, expanded its target group and now offers assistance to battered women, senior citizens and victims of disasters.

Humanitarian Mission 2007 saw hundreds of persons receiving school supplies and other articles in several communities in Berbice and some in Demerara. The Dharm Shala at Fort Canje was given a $600,000 boost.

The occupants of the Camal Home for the homeless and battered woman at Albion are deriving the benefits of new sanitary facilities which were constructed to the tune of $500,000.

Those at the Alpha Children Home at Gay Park on the outskirts of New Amsterdam were the first to receive a donation this year.

At present, the Guyana Chapter is reviewing and assessing some 300 applications for disability assistance.

This would materialise in the form of monthly food vouchers. According to Dr. Sugrim, the organisation intends to focus more on depressed communities.
