NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – Representatives of the Arya Samaj Humanitarian Mission 2007 reached out to scores of less fortunate people in and out of Berbice. The group is headed by Pandit Suresh Sugrim of the New Jersey Arya Samaj.
During the week, a number of communities were served. On Monday, the group handed over a television set and a brush cutter to residents of the Dharm Shala at Fort Canje . The electrical system was refurbished at the facility; all of the windows on the building, as well as the female dormitory, were rehabilitated as well.
“The Dharm Shala is an important part of out programme. These people are the building rocks of our country and have carved our foundation.” The Pandit asserted.
A $500,000 septic tank was constructed at the Camal International Home for the Homeless at Albion . Head of the home, Carmen Kissoon, said that the facility houses 40 children between the ages of one and 18 years old.
On Tuesday, scores of children received school supplies at Port Mourant, while on Thursday, 300 persons at Black Bush Polder were also targeted for help.
This year, some 2,000 persons from both East and West Berbice and 1,000 from West Coast Demerara and Enmore gained from the mission.
“Humanitarian Mission 2007 was very fulfilling. To serve Man is also to serve God…We need to start at home.”
On his return to the United States of America, Pandit Suresh Sugrim intends to begin raising funds for next year's mission. “We must thank some of the persons who contributed to making this a reality…people such as Krishna Singh and Mega Home Equities, and others.
”The New Jersey contingent of Humanitarian Mission 2007 departed Guyana yesterday.
